Abstract

This text delves into the multifaceted nature of contemporary art and its proliferation in a multitude of "isms," particularly during the post-World War II period of the 20th century, which witnessed the emergence of approximately 21 art movements in the 1960s.

Within this crucial decade, the genesis of artivism, a novel practice and attitude of creators, unfolded, subsequently exerting a growing influence up to the present day. This essay explores the concepts of participatory art, social sculpture, and relational aesthetics that arose during this era, as part of a complex process of art's dematerialization, which shifted it from its traditional exhibition spaces to the streets and broader social and human interaction contexts. The significance of art-idea surpassed that of art-object, necessitating a reevaluation of new approaches to fundamental concepts in mediation.

Leonardo Charréu, Escola Superior de Educação, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa / CIEBA- Centro de investigação e Estudos em Belas Artes

Docente no Departamento de Formação e Investigação em Artes e Design na Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, Portugal. É licenciado em Belas Artes pela Universidade do porto (1990) e é mestre em História da Arte pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1995). Possui o Doutoramento em Belas Artes, (2004) pela Universidade de Barcelona, Espanha. É membro investigador integrado no CIEBA (Centro de Estudos e Investigação em Belas Artes) onde coordena o Grupo de Educação Artística e membro colaborador no CIED (Centro Interdisciplinar de Estudos Educacionais).  A educação artística, a pedagogia cultural, as artes visuais e a cultura visual, os novos ambientes de aprendizagem, assim como o desenho e a ilustração científica, encontram-se entre os seus principais interesses de investigação.
