Urban space intervention proposals, at the interception of plastic arts and design

Abstract

“Se esta rua fosse minha” was the inductor for the development of a work process with students of visual arts and technologies. Our aim was to introduce the students to practice-based and practice-led research, in art and design, assuming as an anchoring point an intervention in urban space. The edification of an urban cartography, considering participative forms of diagnosis, action and intervention proposals, has given form to the defined stages for the project's ideation. A project designed in order to allow students to make a proposal of action based on the artistic practice, the design practice or the interconnection between both areas. The text we present aims to reflect on the work processes and results of this project, considering its advantages, contingencies and limits. Finally, it seeks to be a reason for reflection on the links between school, community and civic participation in the training of future professionals, whether in the areas of visual arts, design or art education.

Author Biographies

Teresa Isabel Matos Pereira, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, Escola Superior de Educação

 licenciada em Artes Plásticas - Pintura, mestre em
Teorias da Arte, doutorada em Belas Artes (especialidade de Pintura) e pós
doutorada em Educação Artística pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da
Universidade de Lisboa. Exerce prática docente deste 1998 abrangendo os
níveis de Ensino Básico, Secundário e Superior, sendo atualmente professora
adjunta na Escola Superior de Educação de Lisboa, lecionando na área das artes
visuais. Possui investigação publicada nas áreas da teoria da arte, da educação
artística e das artes visuais bem como tem participado, enquanto artista visual,
em varias exposições desde 1993.

Sandra Pereira Antunes, Escola Superior de Educação, Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa

Licenciada em Artes Plásticas - Pintura, mestre em
Teorias da Arte, pós-graduada em Ciências da Educação e em Design de
Produção Industrial e doutorada em Design. Professora do grupo de Artes
Visuais desde 1998, leciona atualmente no domínio de Artes Visuais
Tecnologias e Multimédia, na Escola Superior de Educação do Politécnico de
Lisboa (ESELx). Tem investigação publicada a respeito do Desenho e da
concepção de Corpo no âmbito do pensamento ontológico da Contra-Reforma
na Península Ibérica; no campo da História do Design em Portugal; na ESELx
desenvolve pesquisa, com colegas de trabalho, sobre metodologias de ensino
e de investigação na Educação Artística, nas Artes Visuais e no Design.
